Summer anime season 2014- What I'm watching

We're well and truly into the summer anime season of 2014 so I thought I would take this opportunity to let you all know what I'm watching, now that I've had the chance to pick and choose the series I know I'll enjoy this season!

1. Sailor Moon Crystal

You all know about this one as I've mentioned it on the blog multiple times before. Sailor Moon Crystal is a new anime based upon the Sailor Moon manga (the same concept as what Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood was for the FMA franchise). Unlike the original and well-loved anime, Sailor Moon Crystal is supposed to be staying true to the manga, though there have been some hints about slight differences that we should expect in this adaption. We've only had two episodes so far (this anime airs every two weeks and will run for 26 episodes- meaning it will take an entire year to get the whole season) but so far so good in my opinion! You can read my blogposts on Sailor Moon Crystal here and here

2. Free! Eternal Summer

Whilst we are in the midst of winter here in Australia I can't help but long for summer and swimming when watching Free! Eternal Summer. Free! Eternal Summer is the second season for the incredibly popular Free! Iwatobi Swim Club anime that aired this time last year. We follow our favorite Iwatobi Swim Club boys along with our old and new favorites from Samezuka academy on their journeys with their swim teams, completing high school and the journey into young adult life. With the introduction of new entertaining characters and a lot more muscle, this season seems to be just as hilariously wonderful as the first. Free! Eternal Summer is animated and produced by Kyoto animation (Kyoani) which is very well known for it's incredible art and animation and this is very, very obvious within the entire Free! series.

3. Kuroshitsuji Book of Circus (Black Butler season 3)

When I first heard that Kuroshitsuji was getting a third season I thought I couldn't be any happier (when it comes to anime anyway) and then I found out they would be adapting my favorite manga arc Noah's ark Circus and I knew we were in for a fantastic summer season. As I, among many, now expect of the Kuroshitsuji anime, the animation,  art, voice acting and plot line are all simply amazing and I have yet to find one thing I dislike about the new season, or any of the previous seasons for that matter. I can't wait to see the rest of this one hell of a series come to life.

4. Ao Haru Ride (Blue Spring Ride)

I've been a fan of the Ao Haru Ride manga for such a long time and I'm so glad it finally has an anime adaption (now I'm just waiting for Dengeki Daisy and Daytime Shooting Star to get their adaptions). This series is what you would expect from most shoujo series, but that definitely doesn't have to be a bad thing! In junior high, Futaba Yoshioka was often bullied and ostracised by other girls because she was what they considered "flirty" and because way too many boys 'liked' her. But the only boy she ever had feelings for, Kou Tanaka, moved away unexpectedly before she had the chance to tell him how she felt. Now that she's in high school, Futaba wants to change they way she is perceived so that she can actually have some female friends instead of constantly feeling alone at school. If you love a good romance anime, this one's gotta be for you!

5. Zankyou No Terror (Terror in Resonance)

To get straight to the point, this series is freaking amazing so far. I've been addicted since this first episode and I just keep wanting more and more! Zankyou No Terror is set in an alternate version of the present where Tokyo is devastated by a terrorist attack in the city after two young males leave a confusing video on the internet about the forthcoming attack. We learn that video was published by two fake high school students by the names of Nine and Twelve who supposedly should not exist. This is the perfect action packed series of the summer season with a very addictive plot and fabulous animation.

6. Gekkan Shoujo Nozaki-kun (Monthly Girls' Nozaki-kun)

At first glance Gekkan Shoujo Nozaki-kun appears to be your typical run-of-the-mill shoujo anime but I assure you, it's a lot better and much more hilarious than that! Chiyo Sakura has a crush on a boy in her year, Umetarō Nozaki, but when she confesses to him things don't quite go to plan. Nozaki assumes that she is a fan of the very popular shoujo manga he publishes in a monthly magazine (using a different name of course) and Chiyo ends up helping him get his manga together and finding people from their school to base characters on. Like I said before, this isn't your standard shoujo series (so far anyway) with a wide range of very hilarious characters that I'm positive most people would enjoy, even if you're not a fan of shoujo anime!

That's what I'm watching this season! What are you all watching?
Thank you for reading, love from Maddie xo

  4. I was so excited when they announced Sailor Moon Crystal. Like many others, I wish the characters showed more emotion like the first series, but I'm still looking forward to catching up with the latest episodes! And I have to catch up with Free! too. I kept seeing it all over tumblr, but only watched a few episodes, but since it's summer here I think I'll finally finish watching it.
